Protest ALEC meeting in Charlotte

May 11, 2012 @ 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
ALEC meeting: Weston Hotel
601 S College St
Charlotte,NC 28202

May 11th — ALEC’s “Spring Task Force Summit” in Charlotte ALL DAY at the Westin hotel (601 S College St). Most important times for a critical mass are 10 am and 4 pm.

ALEC – The American Legislative Exchange Council – is the non-profit “policy” organization, made up of over 2,000 legislative members and 300 corporate members, which meets behind closed doors to write “model legislation.” ALEC is responsible for the anti-union bills in Wisconsin, the anti-immigrant SB1070 in Arizona, and Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. After the Trayvon Martin shooting, ALEC has garnered more negative press, which has lead to Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and other companies withdrawing from the organization. Let’s keep up the pressure!
We are working with friends at the Voters Legislative Transparency Project —

On the 10th we greet ALEC members as they come to town.
The 11th is the actual day of ALEC’s summit. We’ll be Occupying all day at the Westin Hotel (601 S College St). Our friends at Mecklenburg ACTS will be protesting ALEC all day as well, specifically surrounding issues where ALEC manipulates education legislation.
